Architects: Paul Archer Design
Location: London, England, United Kingdom
The Taylor House is about as close to a secluded tropical paradise in the middle of London that you could hope for. This private residence designed by Paul Archer Design was formerly a victorian public house. Retaining just the front and side walls of the original building, the newly constructed dwelling has opened up the ground floor and basement flat to accomodate a four-bedroom house. The bedrooms are located on the lower level, with living spaces on the upper to receive more daylight and retain access tot eh terraced outdoor areas, inverting the traditional hierarchy of domestic architecture. It possesses extended vistas and uninterrupted circuits of movement in the from of double-height internal space and the balconies which provide an alternative route to the lower level through the garden. An outdoor shower is carefully positioned beneath the kitchen, and an ingenious corridor of sliding walls permits flexibility between private bedrooms and an open-plan arrangement.
